HGH, are they a boon or a bane?

High growth hormone, widely known as somatotropin in scientific terminology is secreted into the blood stream by the pituitary gland which is in the size of the pea situated at the base of the brain. It stimulates growth along with cell reproduction and cell regeneration amongst children, adults and in people of all ages, the growth hormone also boosts protein production, promotes the utilization of fat, resulting in overall human development.

Starting from the middle age, the pituitary gland slowly reduces the amount of growth hormone it produces in adults.

Why do we need Growth Hormones?

Apart from growth they also help to regulate body composition, muscle and bone growth along with proper functioning of heart i.e. it is vital for over all well-being in humans. The physiological stimulators for secretion of HGH are proper nutrition, exercise and good sleep.

Pros and cons of Growth Hormones

Both over and under production of the growth hormone can cause serious health problems. It should be produced in balanced optimal amounts.

The over production leads to an overgrowth of tissues causing muscle weakness and the body may become insulin resistant.

The deficiencies in the secretion of growth hormone leads to many negative effects including physical and psychological conditions like diminished body growth, loss of stamina, tender bones, poor memory, depression and social withdrawal. These deficiencies in children have no identifiable cause but the deficiencies amongst adults are commonly due to pituitary tumors. Always opt for a Prescription-Only Medicine.

The HGH supplements

The synthetic HGH was developed in the year 1985. It is approved by the FDA for specific uses i.e. It was produced synthetically to be used in prescription drugs to treat hormonal deficiencies in adults and growth disorders in children. Thus, HGH became an active ingredient in a number of prescriptions (both approved and non-approved) drugs and in other products which are available on the Internet easily.

Though legal, the ability to produce the desired results and the safety of usage of these synthetically produced HGH hasn’t been proved in the clinical trials. And many of the functions of HGH are still unknown as it’s a very complex hormone to decode.

But it is being used for many FDA non-approved purposes. This includes their usage as performance enhancers amongst young athletes seeking a competitive edge; they use it for building the muscle and to improve their athletic physiques although their efficacies are unknown.

As the levels of HGH in the body decrease with age, its speculated that the HGH can reverse the age related bodily deterioration but the use of HGH for anti-aging too hasn’t been approved by FDA.

Though unapproved it has not stopped people from obtaining HGH in the form of injections from doctors, anti-aging clinics, pharmacies on internet and various web sites.

There are different forms of HGH supplements apart from injections like pills and sprays that claim to increase natural production of HGH in the body by turning back the body’s biological clock. The usage of HGH supplements has been always shrouded in mystery and surrounded by many conflicting opinions.
